I used to live in Boston, and worked near Faneuil Hall (yes, yes, I know, why did I move? sigh) and one of my favorite things to do at lunch was to wander over to Crate & Barrel in Quincy Market. It wasn’t so well known back then, but it was generally where you went to get household goods if you lived in the city and worried about paying your rent! I get very nostalgic when I think about the years I lived in Boston – when I miss my “youth”, that is what I miss – Boston in my twenties. I definitely want both of my children to experience living in a big city; there is nothing like it. Of course, it is never too late, one of the biggest trends in retirement these days is city living!
But back to Crate & Barrel who is having their Winter Clearance Sale right now. It’s a good one and worth checking out. Every year I try to find at least one ornament that I love so that I can open it when we put our Christmas tree up in what will probably seem like a few months. I love these Set of 3 Metallic Bell Ornaments and I especially love the price – $4.78!
Look at this adorable Tree Planter. I admit I have an obsession with trees and pine cones, but even if you didn’t, isn’t this really cute? Only $4.98!
There is much much more on the C&B site to consider. Have fun shopping bargain hunters!
Good morning dear bargain hunters! I am so sorry I have been away for a bit – the real estate class kind of kicked my butt! Not so much that it was hard, but that it was so condensed – a 2 week full time class that covered a ton of material with a test to boot. There was so much information to cram in my brain – and my memory is not what it used to be! In the end it was worth it however; I passed the class test and now I am eligible to sit for the national and state exams. I hope to do that before the end of January. So far I’ve gotten quite a bit accomplished in 2013!
I watched the first part of the Lance Armstrong interview last night. I wonder if I was the only one who found it/him chilling. It seems to me that he is at least a sociopath, and considering his level of “bullying”, quite possible a psychopath. At times during the interview if I were Oprah, I would have been scared. He is one scary man. That said, Lance did that interview for one reason and one reason only; the same reason he lied and bullied for so many years: himself. He’s not making his apologies to people whose lives he destroyed or fessing up because it is the right thing to do. He’s doing it because he is trying to save his own ass and because he is still trying to “win at all costs”. He wants to win. Period. I never liked Lance and I never found him inspiring, so perhaps these are easy things for me to say. I feel great empathy for those people who love him, trusted him, and for everyone who ever wore a Livestrong bracelet. You are all victims.
Well now. On to the bargains this morning! Napastyle, one of my very favorite places to shop online, is having their Annual Home Sale. Several years ago, I splurged on this Fair & Square Game Table & Benches. It continues to be my most favorite piece of furniture in the house. Anything I have ordered from NapaStyle I have loved, so as you can imagine I get quite excited at the thought of this sale! If you have been shopping for light fixtures lately you know how expensive they are, especially the gorgeous ones like this Old Tavern Pendant Light. Only $139.99 today!
Ditto for decent switch plates. If you can even find unique ones, they are expensive. I can tell you, that if you are trying to sell your house, invest in putting in some new switch plates, like these Estancia Leather Switch Plates. It is a great return on your investment, because people really do notice. Plus, it gives the impression that the current owners didn’t skimp on anything else in the house. These are a great buy at $12.99 and $19.99 depending on size.
Enjoy the sale bargain hunters!
There are two places I would like to live: in a Sundance Catalog and a Gaiam catalog. They both look like heaven on earth, don’t they? Well, my pursuit of Gaiam-topia just became a little less expensive considering they are holding their Winter Clearance Sale. I’d particularly like to build my Gaiam-topia in my bathroom. The bathroom ideas in the Gaiam catalog look like you are stepping into a spa. I love these Lotus Leaf Bath Towel Hooks. Reg $32, today only $19.99. Oh and these Carved Acacia Panels. They aren’t discounted too much, but they are really beautiful, and spa-like! Reg $99, today $79.99.
Well, we made it to Friday. Today is my children’s last day of school before the break and I am so happy to have them home for over a week. It is also (finally) going to get cold enough so that we can have our first fire, just in time for Christmas. I’m feeling very grateful these days, and looking forward to Christmas with my family. TGIF, bargain hunters!

It’s Monday, not everyone’s favorite day of the week. I hope its a good one bargain hunters!
JCPenney has been through some rough times lately. After bringing on new CEO Ron Johnson, the iconic brand went into a free fall. Determined to re-make JCP’s image, Johnson gave the retailer a brand new look, and instituted, in my opinion, the most bone-headed move in retailing history – pricing all items with one “fair and square” price. The results were disastrous to the brand and it’s stockholders. Sales plunged and so did it’s stock price. Yet, Ron Johnson remains JCP’s CEO, to the surprise of many. The fact that this brand that I have loved to shop is still betting on the man who thinks the future of advertising is in, um, newspapers, is disheartening.
Did I mention JCP paid Johnson $53.3 million dollars in 2011?
Anyway. The man did bring back JCP’s Clearance section. Through tomorrow, during their Friends & Family event, you take an additional 20% off everything (code: 20FORYOU). There is some joy left at JCP.
One of the reasons I love shopping here, is because I can see something I need to have in the Pottery Barn catalog, and find something very similar to it at JCP for like one million dollars less. Like this Verona Coffee Table. This table has a thick marble top with a gunmetal base finish. I love! At only $300 with an additional 20% off, this is a steal.
I’m also loving this 24″ Pine Christmas Wreath with Berries for only $20 with an additional 20% off! A good wreath is hard to find.
I hope you have a relaxing Sunday!
I like to browse occasionally through the clearance section at ShopNBC – in particular the “60% to 70% Off” section. I can usually find something interesting for a great price. One time I snagged a fire pit for our back yard that we are still using today. Look at these cute Sur La Table Set of Four Assorted Wine & Cheese Ornaments. What a great gift for the foodie in your life, or four small gifts for colleagues. Reg $67.80 on sale for $16.20! If you are a new customer to ShopNBC, use code save5 to get an additional 15% off!
I was looking through the holiday edition of the Garnet Hill catalog yesterday. It was so beautiful. I have owned a few Garnet Hill pieces that I treasure. My current favorite is my Oversized Turtleneck Sweater. It is one of the most comfortable, warm, and great looking piece of clothing I own. So, I’m pretty excited that through December, Garnet Hill has a great coupon code – take 20% off site-wide plus get free shipping! (Code: X2RD41X2). I think that I must have this Nordic Wool Sweater. I have this thing for stripes on sleeve, and most sweaters like that look like they are for a 16 year old. This sweater also has gotten great reviews (another cult-like review system which I love!). Reg $88.00 it is on sale for $68.00 plus an additional 20% off and it ships free!
I’m not one to buy guest towels – in fact I’m pretty sure I never have. But these Printed Guest Towels are TOO CUTE. I love the car one carrying the tree. What a charming accent for your bathroom this holiday season for only $14.00, plus 20% off and they ship free! These would also make a great host/hostess gift.
And you just can’t beat the price of this Jardin Open-Neck Blouse. Reg $118 on sale for $14.00 plus 20% off and it ships free! As of this writing all sizes are available except small.
Have a great Wednesday bargain friends!
